"Help Mama!"

Davis has moved into a stage where his favorite thing to do is to "help Mama." He loves to help me fold the clothes (he shakes them out, wads them up, and places them around the room), empty the dishwasher (when it is dirty), clean the windows (he uses one hand on the window to brace himself while wiping with the other), and clean up his toys. Luckily, this last task he really is good at. We have a small bookcase with little baskets on the shelves where the toys go. All I have to do is say, "Does Davis want to help Mama pick up the toys?" and off he goes, picking up toys one by one and saying, "Help Mama! Help Mama!" And they really do end up in the baskets! When they are all put away he gets mad that he doesn't get to help Mama any more. I am so lucky to have such a cute little boy.

You have discovered the secret to teaching children to enjoy work, and share responsibility of chores, which in turn, lightens your load. You may not have "enjoyed" chores as you were growing up, but you did them, and learned the the secret of work.
