All Things Christmas, Dec 2013

The summary in words first; I was able to let go of my need for perfection and let the boys put the ornaments on the tree wherever they thought best.  Darren had to work late, so I was in charge of getting the ornaments out of little boxes and little bags and putting the hooks on them.  Davis and Noah put them on the tree.  And for the most part, I left them all where they were put.

The annual Nielsen Christmas party where all the parents hold their breath and hope their children will sit nicely on Santa's lap.  Some do.  Some don't.  This was the first time Davis did, but it was only to make sure Santa knew he wanted Superman for Christmas.  (Not on any list he have us, so good info to tell Santa.) As soon as Noah saw Santa walk in, he started yelling, "I want Batman!"  But when it came time for him to sit on Santa's lap and deliver his request, it was just too much.

After lots of work trying to plan some special things for Christmas Eve with out little family, Davis decided to get sick.  A bad cold, maybe a touch of the flu.  So me and him were stuck at home Christmas night, while Darren and Noah joined the other Buttars at Nana and Bumpa's house.  Davis fell asleep on the couch at 6:30 pm, and despite being disappointed that all my planning was for naught, I enjoyed a little peace and quiet by myself on Christmas Eve.

The boys were pretty excited Christmas morning, though not the "can't sleep, up at 5 am, and just can't wait any longer" excited that will come later.  This year the super hero population in our house was quadrupled - lots of new super hero action figures to do battle in the coming year.  And new plastic animals to fight.  Lots of new games to play, and a classic - a big bin of Legos.  We all went to Peg's for brunch and then back home to enjoy the day.

A few days later, we went bowling (yes, again) with Grandma and Grandpa and Kim.  And just in case you were wondering - yes, it is very difficult to bowl well with a big pregnant belly in the way.  Do you know who is a surprisingly fantastic bowler?  Grandpa!

Christmas is a magical time of year. Even if you have to spend Christmas Eve at home alone with a sick child. It's still Christmas. We loved the bowling!
